The Music Hall
Music and substance use has a long and paradoxical history, at once tolerated as part of the artist's creative drive whilst in turn vilified as a threat to the moral fabric of society. At times we witness conventional society turning a blind eye to the influence of drugs within music. At other times, music is the voice of revolutionary spirit, a voice that the authorities can no longer ignore and therefore seek to control. This section of the Museum explores music in popular culture that has been influenced by the use of substances.
